Natural Black Hairstyles
Statistics show that most of the women all over the world aren’t having natural hair, most of them color it, perm it or treat it any other way. Not having a natural hair may mean a lot of problems besides the physical damage the products might cause. There have been debates regarding children’s hair, whether to perm it or not.
I believe that the children shouldn’t be stressed about such things, they are too young to decide for themselves and I don’t think it’s fair for the parents to decide for them. They should wait for the children to grow and then they will decide what they want. How can a society expect women to have natural hair if even during their childhood they were taught that beauty can be achieved only by using products and one can be beautiful if she fits into the social conventions. I think it’s time to put aside this mentality and go for the one that there can’t be anything more beautiful than natural hair.
There are even some stars, who got tired of spending half their lives taking care of their hair or waiting in hair salons, not to mention the amount of money they had to spend on it (about 40,000-50,000 dollars a year) so they preferred to cut it.
Most black women pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time to get their hair straightened or treated so it will look in a way that is easier to accept by society. African American people or those who have African ancestors usually have strong, curly hair. Many would like to have a hair like they have, but they instead of being grateful for it and wear natural black hairstyles, wish to conceal this fact and they are trying really hard to look more ‘white’. Naturally there are some factors that can’t be changed, like history.
In some point of history African American people didn’t have the same rights as white people so they were trying to conceal their ethnic identity. I think it is time to realize that those times have passed and we are living in another world now. There are many black women don’t know that there are many natural black hairstyles that one can have with curly hair. In fact, there is almost no hairdo you can’t achieve if your hair is curly. One can have ponytails, buns, up-dos, short or long hair. It doesn’t really matter what hairstyle one chooses, it is almost certain that it will look good.
Some people say that nature has a wonderful talent in creating the most beautiful things. I think that this is more than true and it also applies to the beauty of men. We can’t create a more beautiful beauty than the one we have been blessed with. An African American woman may color her hair as she wishes, but still the color that suits her best is the natural one. This is true in the case of hairstyle as well: one may iron her hair, but still the hairstyle that looks the best on her involves curly hair.
